_Community Stories: Perth team helps to raise nearly $35,000 for three charities
Peter Millard, Craig Dawson, Cara Hyde, Cameron Thomson, Tony Delich, Lisa Tran, David Ivey, Tracy Zarins, Logan Trouchet, Jessica McMullen, Jeremy Robotham, Sandra Jaramillo, Chris Whincop and Rob Agnew from the Perth office have recently taken part in The Vault Charity Spin Challenge.
The four-day event held by The Vault Gym, a corporate wellness centre used by members of staff in partnership with various buildings in Perth CBD, has raised almost $35,000 to support The Steve Waugh Foundation, The Kai Eardley Foundation and Cystic Fibrosis WA.
This year's roadshow style event moved between four different buildings with around 40 companies taking part.
Despite no group training ahead of the event, the team looked resplendent in their Knight Frank shirts, with a lot of grimaces, squirms and sweat as they pushed through the pain.
It was not improved by two of their facilities managers going down to support the team by buying bacon and egg toasties and eating them in front of the team.
Overall, the initiative attracted 400 riders with a 10.2km average, which all members of Knight Riders surpassed. In fact, the team achieved 166.9km of cycling and burnt 1,980 calories, with the furthest distance reached by Peter (14km) followed by Tracey (13.2km) and achieved within 20 minutes each. They came in second place for total distance travelled on day three of the competition out of 15 teams. Each rider also contributed with donations.
The funds will be donated to The Steve Waugh Foundation, which helps to improve the quality of life for children and young people living with rare diseases; The Kai Eardley Foundation, which aims to save the lives of young men by changing the stigma around their expression of emotions by hosting workshops to stop the upward trend of youth male suicide; and Cystic Fibrosis WA, which provides a comprehensive range of services, in-home support and resources for people affected by cystic fibrosis in the state.
